Australian Pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus)

Pelicans are a common sight on the Northern Beaches. They have adapted well to human development. This particular pelican watches and waits for fishermen to return with the day’s catch hoping they might be able to score some scraps.

What most people don’t know is that Pelicans breed communally on secluded shorelines and islands throughout the year depending on food and conditions. Both parents look after the chicks until they fledge.
