Tawny Frogmouth (Podargus Strigoides)
Tawny Frogmouths sleep during the day, often camouflaged among tree branches. At dusk they shake their disguise and begin their nocturnal hunt. They catch prey in flight, or by sitting motionless in a tree and then swooping down on ground-dwelling prey.
Tawny Frogmouths mate for life and in the wild they can live up to 14 years.
This pair represents a mother and baby - the baby looking forward with optimism and interest in the world while the mother keeps a wary eye out.
